October 1, 2009 Waiting on Wednesday: The Mockingbirds
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine and lets bloggers spotlight the upcoming releases they’re anxious to read.
My W.O.W for this week is The Mockingbirds by Daisy Whitney.
Okay. There’s no cover for this book. (that’s a mockup one I made for this post because I miss doing graphic design in my media classes and I had a spare five minutes. And I’m a little nerdy)
There’s no release date for it either, except for Fall 2010. But what it does have is an intriguing synopsis!
From author Daisy Whitney’s site: “The story of a student-run, underground justice league at a prestigious boarding school and the complications that ensue during a date rape case. The group takes its name and inspiration from Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.“
- I’m a law and crime fiction junkie, and to see that translated a bit into the YA genre is great.(Just ask my friend the lawyer who I make spout legal jargon)
- The synopsis is killer.
- I thought I’d be interesting if a class was to read To Kill a Mockingbird and then The Mockingbirds in tandem.
- The author is awesome and does interesting work with media (one of my degree’s interests)
And next week’s is the new Babysitters Club novel, a prequel that lands in March 2010! 2010 is going to be a good release year.. wait till you see the mock cover for that book.

That's really cool! I just recorded the movie version of To Kill a Mockingbird. I haven't seen it since I read the book in highschool!
My 8 year old saw it and made some comment about that being what the dog did…he had an enemy in the winged form of a mockingbird that would taunt him every morning. One day, said mockingbird was an ex-mockingbird with lots of chew holes in it. He does good for a 14lb dog!

Bri! You're my hero! So glad THE MOCKINGBIRDS is a WOW! I can't wait for you to be able to read it next year at this time. And I love the mock-up cover! I'm going to link to this from my site…

Interesting…very interesting. Sounds great, will have to add to my "seek-out" list for 2010 which, I agree, should be great (and busy) with all the anticipated releases! Great job!

I CANNOT wait for this one. I love To Kill a Mockingbird, and mystery, and CRIME! (Well I don't love crime because it's bad but…you know what I mean.) And boarding school is always fun.

Aah, love that mock-up! And great choice for WoW, Bri! I got an early read on The Mockingbirds and it is just fantastic. Pretty impossible to put down. And the same reasons you are interested in reading it are the same reasons I think you'd love it. 🙂 I can't wait for it to come out!
