Today is Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Born March 2, 1904, in Springfield, Mass, he was the author of over 60 children’s titles, many of which have become staples in any child’s library.

  • By 1991, 200 million copies of his books, available in over 15 languages, had been sold
  • Dr. Seuss’ work spawned several television specials including Horton Hears a Who, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, The Loraz and more. Plus feature films such as 2008’s Horton Hears a Who
  • The Cat in the Hat was born from a list of 220 words given to him by a publisher, in response to Why Johnny Can’t Read
  • His work extended beyond children’s books. He also drew political cartoons and designed ads for Standard Oil.
  • In Horton Hears a Who, the littlest who, Jojo, seeks refuge from his family insanity in an abandoned observatory; Dr. Seuss purchased an old observation tower in California in 1948 and converted it to an office
